This 1969 DBS wears vantage badging and has had the weber carburetors installed some time ago but is not a factory vantage. Chassis DBS/5274/LAC has an interesting story. Martin Gant, of Gant Shirtmakers, ordered it new when he resided in Woodbridge CT in the late 1960s. The Gant family business was headquartered in nearby New Haven. Gant was 48 when he took delivery of DBS 5274. It was imported and sold to him by Aston consignee GT Motorcar Corporation of South Norwalk, CT. Gants order was for the same colour as the Bond car, Olive Green, but with a more elegant Natural Connolly leather interior instead of black. One of just 181 left-hand drive DBS, chassis 5274 was fitted with the best options available at the time, including: manual 5 speed ZF transmission, air conditioning, power assisted steering, a Bosch New Yorker radio, Fiamm horns, lap belts, contrasting blue detachable headrests and the innovative WASO steering lock system to deter would-be thieves.
We do not know when Gant sold 5274, but we do know it ended up in Montreal where it was driven little, then put away in storage for the past 15 years. The now British Racing Green exterior shows signs of age and is dented/chipped in areas like around the fuel doors and on the passenger door, but over has a nice patina. The chrome, polished aluminum and other brightwork all shows very well with minimal pitting. The body is straight and dry with no rust visible up top or underneath.
Other than a repaint, this 58,761 mile DBS is in astonishingly original condition. It retains its original wheels (all five of them), knock-off hammer, interior, and mechanical components. The brakes, both inboard rear and front calipers, both boosters, and brake lines were recently overhauled. All fluids were flushed and cleaned. DBS/5274 runs and drives and is the ideal candidate for a restoration.
Our Olive green, manual transmission, left hand drive, air-conditioned, power assisted steering example with weber carburetors and Vantage badging is the ultimate collectors DBS. It is in need of a new home and a new lease on life. They dont come up for sale often and certainly not in this condition with this pedigree.
