1924 Rolls Royce "Springfield Silver Ghost" Sports Open Touring Phaeton
In a small private collection since 1963. One of a kind automobile, open tourer. Rebodied in 1929 by Murphy Coach Works of Pasadena, CA. for Oliver Christopher Holmes. a personal friend of the world famous body designer, Franklin Hershey. Holmes contracted head Master Designer Franklin Hershey with Murphy Coach Works, (Where he started his fame) to design this sleek, sporty touring body. After the Murphy Coach Works factory burnt down after being in business for just 12 years, Franklin was also well known as the person that designed the Ford Thunderbird, then, head designer for several years at General Motors in Mesa, Arizona. He passed away in 1997.
Once owed by Albert Marx, is also believed to belong to Douglas Fairbanks Sr. for a short time, gifting the automobile to Katherine Elizabeth Johnson, a minor starlet and friend to movie star, Mary Pickford. I believe that Franklin Hershey designed Mary Pickford's, well know Boat Tail design, better know as "The Pickford Rolls". Giving even more merit to Murphy was very selective as to whom they would build for.
Featured in the Paul Newman movie, "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" (Filmed in the famous movie location, " Old Tucson" 20 miles west of Tucson, Arizona). Has never been restored, but in excellent restorable condition. Ran when put into storage some 38 to 42 years ago, started 12 years ago, pretty sure it would again with a few hours of TLC and Mystery Oil.
With 91222 Original miles, side curtains and the buyer gets a large oil painting of the Rolls done in 1967. A new, in the box, man's Wallet that I had designed with the Rolls logo made to promote my small museum (The last one in existence). 2 etched crystal glasses. The 1955 Edition of the RROC Book that shows the picture of the 373LF Rolls before it was rebodied and talks of certain Rolls Royce's that are already legends by just being depicted as an past owners. Names Albert Marx and others that have owned her.
